I know it's been a while since I've posted, but I've been holding off on purpose this time. I had our blog turned into a book! And I wanted to wait because I didn't know how long they would take to put it all together and I selected "all posts" and I wanted the last post in the book to be about Korbyn's first birthday. I'm hoping to do that every year as a baby book per say. So the first book has from when we found out we were having a girl up until her first birthday and the next one will have this as the first post up until her second birthday and so on. I'm so excited to get it in!!!
Korbyn is loving her new classroom! This actually isn't her room that she's in but it was the first day that she got moved up (halloween) and the two classes were combined for breakfast. Korbyn's a big girl and yet she looks so tiny compared to all of them. Actually the little girl in the purple is the closest in age to her and they're five months apart, so Korbyn is by far the youngest for now.
This is later when they had their class parties. There was no way I was going to make her wear her costume all day, so we changed into it later even though she probably would have been perfectly happy in it.
This was right before we went trick or treating. Which by the way is a complete NIGHTMARE! We went to the popular part of town where it's a nice neighborhood and it's a big loop so everyone parks a few blocks away and walks around. We really only went over there because I had promised Sam that we would stop by, and of course she would happen to live in that neighborhood. It is absolutely chaos! I didn't grow up in town so I had no idea how trick or treating really went down. There are people everywhere. Our mistake was that we tried to drive through everyone. Don't worry we weren't the only idiots that did that. I was so terrified that a kid was going to run out in front of me that we were barely even moving. We had talked to someone who was familiar with the area and they said that one year they had actually shut down traffic to that area (which I think is smart) because it gets so crazy. They also said that they can easily pass out over 500 goody bags in a couple of hours! We'll know better for next year :)
I had to throw this picture in because it just makes me giggle. The morning after her party Korbyn and I went into her room and decided to re-open all of her gifts :) I threw the hat and sunglasses on her just for laughs right when we started and an hour later she still had them on! She wore them the entire time we were going through all of her things and she loved it!

Happy Birthday!
Friday was Korbyn's first birthday!!! We had a birthday party for her at our house the weekend of the 29th, we made it a costume party since it was so close to hallowen. The reason we didn't do it this weekend, which is closer to her actual birthday, is because it's opening weekend of deer season...I know that might not sound like a big deal but to our families and friends it is!
We could not have asked for a more perfect day. The weather was beautiful, everyone had a great time, and most importantly Korbyn was absolutely perfect :) The party started at 4 p.m. so I wanted to make sure she was well rested, so she got two naps and woke up right at 4 and was in the best mood. In fact, she stayed in that great mood until 10:30 that night, woohoo Korbyn!!!
Korbyn was a bat for her party and for halloween and I was so proud of her for keeping it on. She really didn't have a problem with it on at all! I ordered it online several months ago and I'm glad I did because I had to make some adjustments to the headpiece. In the picture it showed a baby about her size and of course it looks perfect, well when I tried it on her it was way too big, it almost looked like it was made for an adult. But my sewing machine was put to good use once again as I made it a perfect fit for my lil' bat :)
Way more people dressed up than I thought actually would. I would love to make this a tradition and continue to do this every year for her birthday (costume/birthday party), but we'll have to see, it cost a pretty penny to put a party on these days!
Four generations of beautiful ladies :) Korbyn, me, my mom and her mom.
At least I got him to put on some kind of costume. Colton was pretty hesitant about the party, I think it's just because he gets shy and was worried nobody would dress up and I would be disappointed. But after he saw how much fun everyone was having I'm sure he'll be ready to do it again next year!

After the party Colton and I were going through the pictures and when we got to this one he said "who's that?!" I laughed and said that's Lois! (my sister-in-law) These are actually both of my sister-in-laws. When they got there Lois was dressed in normal clothes and I went up to her and jokingly asked her where her costume was and she pulled me aside and said "shhh...don't draw any attention to me because I'm going to dress up as something later and I don't want people to know it's me!" So a couple of hours later Lois is nowhere to be found but this gorilla who doesn't talk is just mingling with everyone. It was absolutely hilarious!!! She would just come up behind people and not say anything and scare the crap out of them when they finally realized she was there. In fact, I'm not sure if Katie knows that she's even behind her when I took this picture haha!
I have to admit, this party would have been nothing without the help of my parents and Colton's mom and step-dad. They were such a huge help with all the decorations and setting up. My mom did an amazing job on Korbyn's cakes too. And yes, the big jack-o-lantern is all edible and it was DELICIOUS!
I can't believe my beautiful little girl is a year old. Korbyn, I'm so proud of the little person you have become and I can't wait to experience many more birthdays with you...happy birthday baby :)

Potty mouths
I can honestly say the one thing Colton and I both need to work on as parents is our potty mouth. I think Colton got his when he started working in the oil field where everyone you talk to has a dirty mouth. I'm not really sure where mine came from! My parents NEVER used fowl language in front of me, I could probably count on one hand the times they both said something they weren't supposed to in front of me. But when I try to think back my mouth is what always got me in trouble. Not necessarily bad words, but talking back and speaking my mind without a filter.
Last Sunday Colton, Korbyn and I were in Bible class and she was eating a snack and playing on Colton's lap when he realized that she spit up all over his arm and his pants we both looked down at it at the same time and Colton said "f***" I whipped my head up and he slowly picked his head up and looked at me with wide eyes and a nervous grin...I was SO embarrassed! Nobody acted like they heard him but I'm almost positive they did because we all sit around tables pretty close to each other and nobody was talking except the person that was reading at the time.
Well the other day I had to take Colton's truck to work to return some lumber that we didn't use over the weekend. He told me that morning that the lumber is sticking out about two feet over the tailgate so don't take off real fast and be careful when I back up. About 9 a.m. I realized that Korbyn was completely out of diapers at daycare so Sam and I hopped in the truck to make a Walmart run and as I was backing up I hear "BAM!" I knew as soon as I heard it what I had done and I yelled "f***in A!" and then immediately covered my mouth and looked at Sam. She just giggled and said "it's ok!" Very professional... I completely forgot it was on the back and ran right into the side of one of the girl's truck at the daycare. Of course I went in and told her what happened and I would pay for the damage. When we walked out to her truck she just started laughing at how little the damage actually was, but I felt so awful!
These are Korbyn's new faces for when she gets frustrated or mad. She scrunches her nose and puckers her lips and shakes her head and then she'll say "ohhhhh ohhhhh" it's so funny to watch. Hopefully we can calm down our mouths before Korbyn actually starts repeating things we say. But this girl worries me already. She is SO hard-headed it makes my head hurt! I don't know what we're going to do when she gets older!!!

Pointing
Korbyn has pointed for quite some time now. Sometimes she points to nothing and other times she knows exactly what she wants. I'll ask her where her bows are, where's the tree, where's your cup etc. and she always knows where to point! She's also been able to tell us who people are, even the kids in her class! I'll ask her "where's Maverick?" and she'll point right to him and she also does it to the other kids in her room. We have Maverick's birthday invitation on our fridge and it has his picture on it and whenever she sees it she gets excited, she's probably thinking "what the heck are you doing here?!" And of course she points to her memaws and papaws. This past weekend they just happened to all be at our house at the same time and we asked Korbyn "where's memaw?" all very curious where she was going to point because they're both called memaw and I can't remember which one she pointed at first but then we asked her again right after that and she pointed to the other one! So she knows exactly who they are.
At home we always ask her where Rocky, Pixie, mommy, and daddy are and we finally got her on video doing it all at once. After watching this video I realized that she got a little too excited and fell and bumped her face on the couch...but she was ok :)

Daddy
There's no doubt about it, Korbyn is definitely a momma's girl. But she LOVES her daddy! Of course he's pretty fond of her too :) We've both come to realize that he's not a baby person haha! We were both over the moon for her as soon as she was here but Colton is still so nervous around little babies and has admitted that he probably doesn't have the amount of patience it takes either. But now that she's older and is able to "play" more....he's all over her and she loves every minute of it.
I've already noticed that she acts differently around Colton and I. If she's sitting on my lap somewhere she's a constant wiggle worm and seems to never be entertained, but if she's with Colton she always is so relaxed and will just sit back against his chest and take everything in.
For some reason when she gets on our bed she immediately gets hyper and excited. I guess it's something different for her because she's never really in it unless we're playing around. Colton started bouncing up and down and she LOVED it! So he kept doing it and as soon as he would stop she would try to do it herself, so cute! And yes, we caught her before she crawled off the end of the bed :)

FIRST STEPS!!!
This weekend we went to one of our friend's son's first birthday party, him and Korbyn also go to daycare together. They have a nice green yard, unlike ours ;) and while we were putting her on the grass to walk, we realized she's not so fond of the feeling on her toes! It looks like we're almost torturing her because she hates it so much, but it was just so darn funny I couldn't resist. So unfortunately this video is NOT of her first steps, but this was just three days before she actually did.
Yesterday at daycare her teacher came and told me that she took her first step! I immediately wanted to start crying because I couldn't believe it...but I didn't! So then we were trying to get her to walk all day long and she would actually do it several times. I even got her to take three whole steps to me! And I love watching her do it because she gets so proud of herself. I tried to get a video of her but it was really difficult to stand her up, hold the camera, and get her to walk to me all at the same time, so we still don't have a video of her walking yet but hopefully we'll get one soon!
